Inspirational

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class

was walking home from school.  His name was Kyle.  It looked like he was

carrying all of his books.  I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring

home all his books on a Friday?  He must really be a nerd."   I had quite

a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my  friends tomorrow

afternoon), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on.  As I  was walking, I

saw a bunch of kids running toward him.  They ran at him, knocking all his

books out of his arms and  tripping him so he landed in the dirt.  His

glasses went flying,  and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from

him.  He looked up and I saw this terrible sadness in his eyes. My heart

went out to him.   So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around

looking for his glasses, and I saw a tear in his

eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said "Those guys are jerks, they

really should get lives."  He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There

was a big smile on his face.  It was one of those smiles that showed real

gratitude.  I helped him pick up his books, and asked  him where he lived.

As it turned out, he lived near  me, so I asked him why I had never seen

him before.  He said he had gone to private school before now.  I would

have never hung out with a private school kid before.  We talked  all the

way home, and I carried his books.  He turned out to be a pretty  cool

kid.   I asked him if he wanted to play football on Saturday with  me and

my friends.  He said yes.  We hung all weekend and the more I got to know

Kyle, the more I liked him.  And my friends thought the same

of him.  Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of

books again.  I stopped him and said, "Damn boy, you are gonna  really

build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!"  He just

laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends.   When we were

seniors, began to think about college.   Kyle decided on  Georgetown, and

I was going to Duke.  I knew that we would always be friends, that the

miles would never be a problem.   He was going to be a doctor, and  I was

going for business on a football scholarship.  Kyle was  valedictorian of

 our class.

I teased him all the time about being a nerd.  He had  to prepare a speech

for graduation.  I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and

speak. Graduation day, I saw Kyle.  He looked  great. He was one of those

guys that   really found himself during high school.

He filled out and actually looked good in glasses.  He had more dates

than me and all the girls loved him!  Boy, sometimes I was jealous.  Today

was one of  those days.  I could see he was nervous about his speech. So,

I smacked him on the back and said,  "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!"  He

looked at me with one of those looks (the really  grateful one) and

smiled.  "Thanks," he said.  As he started his speech, he cleared his

throat, and began. "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped you

make it  through those tough years.   Your parents, your teachers, your

siblings,  maybe a coach...  but mostly your friends.   I am here to tell

all of you  that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give

them.  I am going to tell you a story."  I just looked at my friend with

disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to

kill himself over the weekend.  He talked of how he had cleaned out his

locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff

home.  He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile. "Thankfully, I was

saved.  My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."  I heard the gasp

go through the crowd as this  handsome, popular boy told us all about his

weakest moment.  I saw his Mom  and dad looking at me and smiling that

same grateful smile.  Not until that moment did I realise it's depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you

can change a person's life.   For better or for worse.  God puts us all in

each other's lives to impact one another in some way.  Look for the good

 in others.

Attitude

I woke up early today, excited over all I get to do before the clock strikes midnight. I have responsibliities to fulfill today. I am important. My job is to choose what kind of day I am going to have.

Today, I can complain because the weather is rainy or ...I can be thankful that the grass is getting watered for free.

Today, I can feel sad that I don't have more money or... I can be glad that my finances encourage me to plan my purchases wisely and guide me away from waste.

Today, I can grumble about my health or...I can rejoice that I am alive.

Today, I can lament over all that my parents didn't give me when I was growing up or...I can feel grateful that they allowed me to be born.

Today, I can cry because roses have thorns or...I can celebrate that thorns have roses.

Today, I can mourn my lack of friends or...I can excitedly embark upon a quest to discover relationships.

Today, I can whine because I have to go to work or...I can shout for joy because I have a job to do.

Today, I can complain because I have to go to school or...I can eagerly open my mind and fill it with rich new tidbits of knowledge.

Today, I can murmur dejectedly because I have to do housework or...I can feel honored because the Lord has provided shelter for my mind, body, and soul.

Today stretches ahead of me waiting to be shaped.

And here I am, the sculptor who gets to do the shaping.

What today will be like is up to me.

I get to choose what kind of day I will have!

Don't Wait--Do It Now!

I watched Joe walk to the cross yesterday;

But then he stopped and turned away

Saying "No, I don't think I will. No, I still have time...

'Better not today; tomorrow will be fine."

The Preacher just sadly shook his head,

Then laid a hand on his shoulder and said,

"My friend, this life has no guarantees;

Your plans for tomorrow you may never see.

Come, friend, ask Jesus for forgiveness now!

Come kneel by me I'll show you how."

Then Joe said,"You see, sir, I'm busy tonight,

A party I don't think that Jesus would like.

I'll have 'one last fling', and then I'll see.

Yes! like I said, tomorrow will be better for me."

The Preacher tried again to convince him to stay,

But Joe said,"'No sir!' I said, 'Not today'."

The next day I heard that there had been

A terrible accident last night around ten.

As I listened to the story my heart filled with pain,

and the pain turned to grief when I heard the name.

"I'll come back tomorrow," I had heard Joe say,

Not knowing his last chance to be saved would soon slip away.

At the judgment throne of God I saw Joe one last time

As he stood there waiting his turn in line.

His name was called and the Books were read,

But his name was not there, God said.

"Jesus!" Joe cried, "take another look!

I know I must be somewhere in that book.

I came to the cross the day I died.

Listen to me, Jesus, I would not lie."

"I know, Joe, that you started to come," the LORD said,

"Yes, you did, but you turned away from Me to a party instead."

"Oh! Please, let me in. Why'd You take my life away?

Jesus! Didn't You listen that day?

Didn't you hear me say?

I was to meet the Preacher the very next day?

Jesus, please! Please, don't turn me away."

"Joe, there is nothing else I can do.

I died on the cross to give eternal life to you.

I called for you the day you died;

you came to the cross, but you pushed Me aside.

When you turned from Me your eternal life was lost,

Now only you can pay the cost.

The only gate for you to go through

Is the gate of Hell. Now, away with you."

As you read this poem, I pray you will see,

Jesus died on the cross for you and me.

Never wait till tomorrow! Call on Jesus today.

If you want to go to Heaven, Jesus is the only way.

Footprints

One night a man had a dream that he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, the other belonging to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints, and that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life...

This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."

The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child. I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

God's Rainbow

Rainbows appear after mighty storms,

When things look their very worst,

Just when the skies are darkest grey,

Look for the rainbow first.

The rainbow is a sign of God's promise,

That He will guide us through any storm,

That He will see us through all our troubles,

No matter what their form.

When you feel battered by life's storms,

find you are filled with doubt and dismay;

Just remember God`s rainbow is coming-

It's only a prayer away.

His Tender Love

I cannot fathom days
Without God's tender love,
As deep as any ocean,
As vast as skies above.

He leads me to still waters
And there He sits with me,
He paints for me a vision
That others may not see.

I see Him on the mountains,
In valleys down below,
In every star that shines,
In all of moonlight's glow.

I see Him in each flower
That grows in gardens fair.
He puts a rainbow in tthe sky
To let me know He's there.

Without a word that's spoken,
He knows my every need,
But having Him so close to me
Is His most wondrous deed.

I Can Lay My Hand

I can lay my hand in the hand of Christ
And find there perfect rest,
For every moment, close to mine,
His nail-pierced hand is pressed.

I can lay my life in the heart of Christ
Unfaltering, unafraid--
He is loving, near, and ever strong,
And the path I walk, He made.

I can rest my soul in the soul of God,
In its depths of love and power,
And rest me there, for He will keep
Me safe each day, each hour!

I Saw Jesus Today

I saw Jesus today, in the grocery store. There He was, right by the lettuce, searching, His old eyes could barely see. The old woman took His hand, and smiled at Him, helping Him, gently to keep His dignity. No one knew, but they.

I saw Jesus today at the checkout line, eyes downcast, with food stamps. People staring, judging, making comments when He left.

I saw Jesus today, outside, poor and alone. His clothes were torn. We all walked by. No one stopped to say "Hello, how can I help you?" We judged Him, after all, He should "get a job!"

I saw Jesus today. He didn't look like me. He was black, asian, mexican, fat, bald. I held my purse close...crossed to the other side of the street.

I saw Jesus today while driving. She was sitting in her car, crying. Her husband left her with 3 kids. She was all alone.

I saw Jesus today in the parking lot. He was in a wheelchair, lost a leg while in the war.

I say Jesus today. He was in prison...had no visitors in quite a while.

I saw Jesus today on T.V. They took His home, pushed Him out, and we just sat and ate supper and watched Him cry.

I saw Jesus today in the nursing home, sitting by the door. He looked like He wanted a hug. I walked by, afraid to reach out.

I saw Jesus today in the hospital. He was sick and in pain. I didn't stay. I didn't want to get sick too. Someone will take care of Him.

I saw Jesus today. She was mentally retarded. I didn't know what to say, so I said nothing at all.

I saw Jesus today. She was only 3, mama beat her, daddy was drunk. I turned and looked away.

I saw Jesus today. He was at the bank. Smiled at me and said "How are you?"

I saw Jesus today on the swing. Laughing, mama, higher, higher, push me higher. Jesus loves to swing!!

I saw Jesus today. He handed me a Kleenex. He wiped my tears.

I saw Jesus today in so many places.

I saw Jesus today in You!

Only A Minute

I knelt to pray but not for long,

I had too much to do.

I had to hurry and get to work

For bills would soon be due.

So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,

And jumped up off my knees.

My religious duty was now done

My soul could rest at ease.

All day long I had no time

To spread a word of cheer.

No time to speak of God to friends,

They'd laugh at me I'd fear.

No time, no time, too much to do,

That was my constant cry,

No time to give to souls in need

But at last the time, the time to die.

I went before the Lord,

I came, I stood with downcast eyes,

For in his hands God held a book;

It was the book of life.

God looked into his book and said

Your name I cannot find

I once was going to write it down....

But never found the time."

Pathway of Pain

If my days were untroubled and my heart always light,
would I seek that fair land where there is no night?

If I never grew weary with the weight of my load,
would I search for God's peace at the end of the road?

If I never knew sickness and never felt pain,
would I search for a hand to help and sustain?

If I walked without sorrow and lived without loss,
would my soul seek solace at the foot of the cross?

If all I desired was mine day by day,
would I kneel before God and earnestly pray?

If God sent no winter to freeze me with fear,
would I yearn for the warmth of spring every year?

I ask myself these and the answer is plain,
if my life were pleasure and I never knew pain-

I'd seek God less often and need Him much less,
for God is sought more often in times of distress.

And no one knows God or sees Him as plain-
as those who have met Him on the "Pathway of Pain."

The U in JesUs

Before U were thought of or time had begun,

God even stuck U in the name of His Son.

And each time U pray, you'll see it's true

You can't spell out JesUs and not include U.

You're a pretty big part of His wonderful name,

For U, He was born; that's why He came.

And His great love for U is the reason He died.

It even takes U to spell crUcified.

Isn't it thrilling and splendidly grand

He rose from the dead, with U in His plan.

The stones split away, the gold trUmpet blew,

and this word resUrrection is spelled with a U.

When JesUs left earth at His upward ascension,

He felt there was one thing He just had to mention.

"Go into the world and tell them it's true

That I love them all

Just like I love U.

So many great people are spelled with a U,

Don't they have a right to know JesUs too?

It all depends now on what U will do,

He'd like them to know

But it all starts with U.

JesUs and U!!

The Vessel

The Master was searching for a vessel to use:
Before Him were many,
Which one would He choose?
"Take me," cried the gold one.
"I'm shiny and bright;
I'm of great value and I do things just right.
My beauty and luster will outshine the rest,
And for someone like you, Master, Gold would be best."

The Master passed on with no word at all,
And looked at a silver urn, grand and tall.
"I'll serve you dear Master, I'll pour out your wine;
I'll be on your table whenever you dine.
My lines are so graceful, my carving so true,
And silver will always complement you."

Unheeding, the Master passed on to the brass,
Wide-mouthed and shallow and polished like glass.
"Here, here!" cried the vessel, "I know I will do;
Place me on your table for all men to view."

"Look at me," called the goblet of crystal so clear,
"My transparency shows my contents so dear.
Though fragile am I, I will serve you with pride,
And I'm sure I'll be happy in your house to abide."

Then the Master came next to a vessel of wood;
Polished and carved, it solidly stood.
"You may use me, dearest Master," the wooden bowl said.
"But I'd rather you used me for fruit, not for bread."

Then the Master looked down and saw a vessel of clay.
Empty and broken it helplessly lay.
No hope had the vessel that the Master might choose,
To cleanse, and make whole, to fill and to use.

"Ah! Now This is the vessel I've been hoping to find.
I'll mend it and use it and make it all mine.
I need not the vessel with pride of itself,
Nor one that is narrow to sit on the shelf;
Nor one that is big-mouthed and shallow and loud;
Nor one that displays his contents so proud;
Nor the one who thinks he can do things just right;
But this plain earthen vessel filled with power and might."

Then gently He lifted the vessel of clay,
Mended and cleansed it and filled it that day;
Spoke to it kindly - "There's work you must do...
Just pour out to others as I pour into you."

If you were to get an e-mail from GOD........

As you got up this morning, I watched you and hoped you would talk

to

  me,

even if it was just a few words, asking my opinion or thanking me

for

something good that happened in your life yesterday - but I noticed

you were too busy trying to find the right outfit to put on and wear

 to

    work.

I waited again. When you ran around the house getting ready I knew

 there

would be a few minutes for you to stop and say hello, but you were

too

   busy.

At one point you had to wait fifteen minutes with nothing to do

except

  sit

in a chair. Then I saw you spring to your feet.

I thought you wanted to talk to me, but you ran to the phone and

 called

  a

friend to get the latest gossip. I watched as you went to work and I

   waited

    patiently all day long.

With all your activities I guess you were too busy to say anything

to

 me

I noticed that before lunch you looked around, maybe you felt to

embarrassed to talk to me, that is why you didn't bow your head.

you glanced three or four tables over and you noticed some of your

friends talking to me briefly before they ate, but you didn't.

That's okay, there is still more time left, and I have hope that

you will talk to me, yet you went home and it seems as if you had

lots

    of things to do.

After a few of them were done you turned on the TV.

I don't know if you like TV or not, just about anything goes there &

you spent a lot of time each day in front of it not thinking about

    anything, just enjoying the show.

I waited patiently again as you watched the TV and

ate your meal, but again you didn't talk to me.

Bedtime I guess you felt too tired. After you said

goodnight to your family you plopped into bed and fell asleep in no

  time.

That's okay because you may not realize that I am

always there for you. I've got patience more than you will ever

know.

I even want to teach you how to be patient with others as well.

I love you so much that I wait everyday for a nod, prayer or thought

 or

  a

    thankful part of your heart.

It is hard to have a one-sided conversation.

Well you are getting up again and once again I will

wait with nothing but love for you hoping that today you will give

me

    some time.

    Have a nice day!

    Your friend,

    GOD

P.S. Do you have enough time to send this to

    someone else?
